How to make a quiz from a PDF

01

Bring a text PDF or notes

Upload a text PDF (up to 25 MB / 100 pages) or paste notes. Select the pages you want. Start with a short chapter, not an entire textbook.

02

Edit source-linked items

Automatic rule drafts propose questions with an exact quotation and page. Fix wording, discard weak items, or add your own by hand.

03

Quiz, score, export

Answer one question at a time. Reveal the key, mark yourself or use limited exact matching, retry misses, then download CSV, JSON, or a printable quiz with answer key.

WORKED EXAMPLE

From a plant-cell paragraph to a quiz item.

Source sentence: “Plant cells contain chloroplasts, which carry out photosynthesis.”

A rule draft may ask you to fill in the blank for chloroplasts, keep that sentence as the quotation, and label the item as a rule draft. You edit before practice. Exact-answer matching only compares normalized strings — it is not semantic grading.

How does PDF to Quiz work?

Upload a text PDF or paste notes. The page text is read in your browser. Automatic rule-based drafts create editable question and answer items anchored to an exact quotation and page. You edit them, then practice one question at a time.

Is this the same as flashcards?

No. Flashcards flip for recall. This quiz flow asks one question at a time, lets you submit or reveal an answer, mark yourself or use limited exact-answer matching, retry misses, and track a score.

Are the questions AI-generated?

The default drafts on this page are automatic rule-based patterns or manual entries, and the sample quiz is curated. Optional AI flashcard generation lives on the homepage and requires a verified account when available.

What PDF problems are supported?

Text PDFs up to 25 MB and 100 pages. Password-protected PDFs are rejected. Empty or unreadable files show an error. Pages without selectable text cannot be quizzed from the PDF alone — paste a transcription in the Notes tab. Image-only PDFs are not converted automatically.

Where is my PDF processed?

PDF bytes stay in this browser tab for extraction. The local quiz flow does not upload your file. Keep an export before closing the tab. Read our privacy notice for details about optional AI generation elsewhere on the site.

How is scoring calculated?

Score percent is round(correct ÷ total × 100), or 0% when there are no items. Self-mark mode trusts your Correct / Incorrect buttons. Exact mode only matches a normalized string to the stored answer — useful for short facts, limited for open answers.
